Brian Lewis was born in Greensboro, North Carolina and pursued his undergraduate studies at UNC-Chapel Hill. In medical school, he co-founded the Integrative Medicine student group at UNC which organized educational seminars, retreats, and weekly classes. Between his third and fourth years of medical school he received a grant for studying the healing methodologies from the Himalayas and Tibet. He then returned to complete medical school, and continued his studies with a Masters in Public Health focusing on health care leadership, health education, and community-based clinics.
In the following years, Brian completed his Family Practice residency in Asheville, NC. After completing residency, he modeled a faculty development fellowship centered on Integrative Medicine and worked with other residents across the country to provide affordable fellowships in Integrative Medicine.
Brian is inspired to open the Integrative Family Medicine of Asheville clinic with Dr. Chad Krisel. He hopes that together they will demonstrate a model of sustainable, empowering healthcare for other communities to replicate or expand.

Stacey is a life coach who helps people find and live their purpose. She is the founder and owner of Midwife for Your Life. She also works as a certified nurse-midwife, and over more than 17 years her career has taken her from western Indian reservations to a center-city Bronx hospital to the mountains of southwestern Mexico.
She received her bachelor’s degree from Oberlin College, her nursing degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her master’s degree in midwifery from Yale University.
She also wrote a best-selling children’s book, Ravenna. She lives in Asheville with her husband, young son, a dog, and a chicken.

Anne Plyler, a 1970 UNC-CH PT graduate, earned a Master of Liberal Arts from UNC-A in 2008. She has practiced physical therapy over 40 years, the past 25 years at Mission Hospital where she is an acute care physical therapist & a Geriatric Resource Specialist. Prior to that, she managed Rehabilitation Services at Visiting Health Professionals, which was WNC’s largest home health agency.
Her sons’ pursuit of martial arts training provided her first exposure to Tai Chi in the 1980′s. Her own Tai Chi practice began in 1996, inspired by the research of Emory University physical therapist Steven L. Wolfe and Tai Chi Grandmaster Tingsun Xu, PhD. Anne has studied with several instructors over the years, and is grateful to each of them for a variety of learning experiences in Yang and Sun styles of Tai Chi.
Anne is a premier member of the Tai Chi for Health Institute and a member of the Tai Chi for Health Community. She is certified as a Level I & Level II Tai Chi for Arthritis Instructor by both the Arthritis Foundation and The Tai Chi for Health Institute.

Vishnu Dass is an Ayurvedic practitioner and skilled clinical herbalist. He is the owner and director of Blue Lotus Ayurveda in Asheville, North Carolina. He studied under the guidance of Dr. Vasant Lad, renowned Ayurvedic physician and teacher. During and after his training and worked at the Panchakarma Department of the Institute under Dr. Lad’s supervision.
Vishnu Dass had previously studied with author and herbalist Michael Tierra at the American School of Herbalism in Santa Cruz, CA. He is a former Board Member of the National Ayurvedic Medical Association and was granted a Lifetime Professional Membership for his service on that Board.
Since 1992 he has been a student of the yoga master Baba Hari Dass. Vishnu Dass now offers lectures and workshops on Ayurveda and Yoga philosophy for various clinical herb schools and yoga centers.

Gordon is a Child and Family Counselor in private practice with thirteen years of experience working with people from across the community. I am also an elected member of Asheville’s City Council. Gordon graduated from Western Carolina University with a degree in Community Counseling, and in 2003 I became a Licensed Professional Counselor.
Gordon’s counseling approach draws from Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems Theory, Narrative Therapy, and Existential Therapy. This eclectic mix draws from my personal outlook and has proven to be helpful in meeting the needs of the people with whom I work. I launched my private practice in 2008 and went solo in August, 2012. He loves Asheville, and finds great satisfaction in offering competent, compassionate service to the people who live here.

n the 1970s, David was initiated by Swami Prabhupada, and given the name Garga Risi, the name of a renowned Indian vedic astrologer. During these years, which he fondly calls, “ my Hindu monk years”, David regularly read the texts of India and studied deeply the eastern spiritual approach to the multi-dimensions of the planets.
It was some years later, however, after leaving the monk lifestyle that he felt inspired to immerse himself directly in the study of astrology. David completed his Level I studies at the American College of Vedic Astrology and currently he is studying advanced techniques of Neo-Vedic Astrology and working on a book on Vedic astrology and holistic healing entitled, “Doshas and Dhasas”.

Howard Hanger’s zest for living has danced him into a wide variety of pursuits. He is the founder and Minister of Ritual of the JUBILEE! Community in Asheville, North Carolina. Howard believes that, as a minister, his mission is to bless and encourage love wherever he finds it and to bring love where it is not.
Since 1973, Howard has lived in and operated a “Living Cooperative” in his 9000 square foot Victorian home. “The point of the Cooperative,” Howard says, “is to provide extended family and community. It’s also a great way to live cheap.”
In 1999, Howard opened a School for Girls at his home. Hanger Hall is a middle school (6-7-8 grades), has a 9:1 student/teacher ratio, focuses on strong academics and living skills and is – Howard puts it – “a Daddy thing.”

Kaylina completed the Master Teacher Training with Michele Cassou and has been mentored by Barbara Kaufman who founded the Center for Creative Exploration in San Francisco.
Kaylina is an Expressive Arts Facilitator who founded Sacred Space Painting, Asheville’s Intuitive Process Painting Studio. Intuitive Painting has unblocked her creativity, taught her to trust her intuition and authentic voice, and awakened her passion for life.

Anna Jane also continues to work with the faith community; in 2012, she co-founded WNC Green Congregations, a network of faith communities in WNC working together to protect our planet and all who depend on it- an initiative she now leads.
