Debby Genz & Elly Richards ~ Green Grannies Climate Change Activists

Green Grannies security detail at Moral Monday

As an offshoot of the local 350 group, The Green Grannies started in Asheville in June 2012,.  They are a group of women who are willing to make a ruckus about the need for action on climate change.  They sing every third Saturday in the heart of town, and have sung at events ranging from Asheville Moral Monday to Duke hearings to the Western NC Democratic Gala.

Debby Genz has lived in Asheville for almost 20 years.  Since retiring she has devoted much of her time and energy to climate causes, such as 350.org, The Keystone Pledge of Resistance, organizing an Asheville bus to the NYC Climate March, Citizen’s Climate Lobby, and especially the Green Grannies!

Elly Richards first became aware of environmental issues back in the mid 1980’s.  This care for the earth journey has led her to work with several environmental foundations, create two Permaculture farms in Ecuador and, since moving to Asheville 3 years ago, join the local 350.org group and help form the Green Grannies.

Enjoy this one~hour podcast with the singing Green Grannies whose inspiring message encourages us all to do our part to combat climate change!
