An adventurer at his core, David is always on his way somewhere. So how appropriate is it that David’s career, with more than 18 albums, began when he was a teenager bike riding through North Carolina as part of journey riding the full length of the Blue Ridge Parkway. After spending week in Asheville, David decided to stick around and he attend Warren Wilson College, graduating in 1985. During this time, David performed regularly at McDibbs in Black Mountain where he learned the art of keeping his music fresh, responding to the crowd and being spontaneous. From his 1987 debut The Nightshift Watchman through his new album Blaze, David has primarily sought to find a way to stay always in the moment, to never let his art feel like a routine, to never be afraid to take a chance.
I hope you enjoy this special one-hour podcast where David shares his music and wisdom about life!
