In August 2011, I was arrested along with 2,000 others in front of the White House as part of two week protest of the authorization of KeystoneXL pipeline. At this time, no one believed that this effort would actually have the power to stop the KeystoneXL and yet here we are over 3 years later and no pipeline. I chose to be arrested because I believe global warming is the most significant threat to not only humanity, but to life as we know it on the planet. Our current levels of burning fossil fuels is on a trajectory to warm the planet by 4 degrees over the next century, a horrifying legacy we will leave to our grandchildren. The goal is simple and clear. We need to drastically reduce the burning of fossil fuels and make the switch to clean, renewable energy sources as well as a cultural attitude of reduce, reuse, recycle. Yet, the road to such a reality requires that we confront the most rich and powerful corporations man/womankind has ever known- the oil, gas, and coal companies as well as the many governments, including our own, that do their bidding. What a ride this will be and not one I’m willing to stand on the sidelines for.
I hope you enjoy what I have to share about the urgency of addressing global warming and climate change!
