Bobby McHugh ~ Eco-home Designer & Builder

Bobby McHugh was born and raised in and around Washington DC. Living on Bainbridge Island, Washington in the early 90’s, Bobby found a love for watercolor painting.  Inspired by the quaint waterfront homes on the island he started painting portraits of houses and sparked an interest in learning how to design and build the houses he was painting.  In 2001 Bobby designed and built his first home, a modified post and beam straw bale.  Since then he has built several houses in the Asheville area, choosing to do one at a time doing much of the finish tile and woodworking himself.  Bobby is constantly inspired by the vast beauty of the southern Appalachians. He aims to harmonize energy-efficient homes with its natural environment, often using wood from the land, and to foster a sense of drama and integrity with nature.  You can learn more about Bobby’s work at his website: McHugh-Designs.com.
